  • Integration is not about the movement of bodies or things; it is about the movement of minds and power.

NYC currently serves 1.1 million students in some of the most separate and unequal schools in the country. IntegrateNYC was founded six years ago by youth leaders and an educator in the South Bronx to challenge that fact, and has grown into a city-wide force for transformation.

IntegrateNYC is a youth-led intergenerational organization developing civic leaders by bringing together students from segregated schools who build relationships across divided communities, design solutions, and advocate for the transformation of schools into integrated, equitable learning communities that honor the dignity of all. Together we address head-on the internalized, interpersonal, and institutional forms of oppression enshrined in a segregated system by developing diverse student leaders committed to challenging the institutional barriers segregation creates.

Our student-generated platform - the 5Rs of Real Integration - was created to move beyond limited ideas of desegregation into a more holistic approach recentered around equity.

We work to enact the 5Rs of Real Integration in our schools, expand youth decision-making power across our city, and practice the liberation and healing we envision in the world.

In service of that, we are supporting the launch of The Peer Defense Project, an intergenerational legal project that develops youth leaders who build legal tools to increase autonomy, institutional power, and materials resources to remedy the harms of systemic racism in schools, courts, and government. The Peer Defense Project works with youth movements in integration, youth prison abolition and youth voting rights to build legal tools for learning, listening, leading, leveraging, legislating, and litigating law.

  • We center and support youth to forge an unprecedented journey ahead.

We elevate bold youth vision for the future.

We honor youth across culture, identity, and ability.

We work with restorative practices, unapologetic self love, community care and joy.

We lean into the unique expertise present across generations.

THE ROLE

IntegrateNYC has grown significantly and we are seeking an organized, well-connected and enthusiastic partner in designing, managing, and improving our fundraising strategy so our team can make the most impact possible.

Because we are an intergenerational organization focused on transformative youth development, the Development Manager and Youth Development Coach will partner with student leaders to execute their role, coach youth in developing their skills and sense of power, and collaborate with an intergenerational team (ages 13+).

This is an ideal role for someone looking for an opportunity to put their development and fundraising skills to use and directly work with youth to catalyze systemic change.

Responsibilities include:

  • Fundraising Strategy and Growth Planning

    • Lead prospecting and identifying and cultivating new fundraising streams, including cultivating individual donors, corporate giving, and foundation grants to diversify our current streams of revenue

    • Ability to create and implement an annual fundraising plan that meets our current fiscal year budget needs, to be sustainable for multiple years, and grows our safety net

  • Individual and Corporate Donors

    • Create and execute a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors; grow monthly donor program

    • Cultivate and steward relationships with major donors and corporate funders; develop a donor cultivation strategy for each with calendar of touchpoints

    • Support annual fall/winter event and appeal; guided by development plan, create fundraising strategy and support event logistics for other events and appeals throughout the year

  • Grant writing and proposals

    1. In collaboration with the Executive Team, draft, edit, and submit grant proposals and annual reports to weave together relevant content

    2. Research grant opportunities and manage annual grants calendar (including new and renewal funding)

    3. Support organization to clearly message work to different funding audiences; co-write grant proposals and reports with INYC student executives

    4. Support  team to prepare for fundraising strategy development and ensure they are prepared for donor calls and site visit

  • Development Systems and Processes

    • Main voice in communicating and interfacing with external donors and internal staff as it relates to campaigns, cultivation asks, and administrative follow-up in a timely manner

    • Staying on top of fundraising trends within the nonprofit community and maintaining fundraising collateral

  • Coaching

  • Support the youth interns to set objectives, plan future tasks, evaluate outcomes, and engage in ongoing reflection

  • Train and support INYC youth leaders to evaluate organization’s fit with grant and funding opportunities and prepare to present during donor meetings

  • Foster innovative strategies with an asset-based, equity-minded, and relationship-centered approach to goal-setting and holistic growth on a team with a wide range of ages and abilities

WHO YOU ARE

  • Committed to practicing liberation: We do not live in a world that honors the dignity of every person. We are committed to building a world that has never existed. To do that, we are all in a process of learning and unlearning, expanding how we honor each other and ourselves, and experimenting toward new ways of working and being. You want to be in that imperfect but vital process with our community.

  • Experienced supporting the growth of youth (13-24): You feel comfortable with and excited to intentionally build relationships with youth where they feel seen, supported, and challenged to expand in the ways that are important to them.

  • Passionate about our movement building, and thrives off the energy of building relationships with others: You are excited to share IntegrateNYC’s work with current and potential funders, adult allies and other supporters. You understand the power of grassroots organizing as a mechanism for change and will bring that energy to the ways you build relationships and execute your responsibilities. You are a natural storyteller and gain energy by connecting people to common causes and building relationships.

  • Scrappy, resourceful and go-getter attitude: We are a small organization aiming for high growth! You are not afraid to try new ideas, collaborate with others, and not easily discouraged. You are ready to combine your fundraising skills with a scrappy attitude to look at prospects in a new way, go after opportunities with confidence, and utilize our resources in a strategic way.

HOW TO APPLY

The first step in the application process is to send a resume and cover letter to hire@integratenyc.org   by December 19, 2022.

If you are selected for the next step, we will call you to schedule a brief phone call to ask follow up questions on your application. Candidates who move on to the next step will meet with an intergenerational group of our team for a “Meeterview” - a meeting meets interview - where we will get to know each other better. Final offers will be made after all eligible candidates have completed their Meeterview.

Equity Statement: Members of communities that have been marginalized by our white supremacist, cisheteropatriarcial, ableist culture often underestimate their readiness for a position. We encourage you to apply even if you aren’t sure your qualifications or experience are a “perfect” fit or ask questions before applying to wema@integratenyc.org
