“We are the students of New York City's segregated schools committed to achieving REAL integration”

The Origin

It all began in Sarah Medina Camiscoli’s South Bronx bilingual classroom in 2014, with the “IntegrateNYC4me" learning project, leading to students to testifying about the harms of the country’s largest and most segregated school system. Soon after, a pivotal interaction, (now known as “The 6 Train Exchange), between those students and students in a well resourced school district, inspired the youth-led creation of the “5Rs of Real Integration”, and an after-school advocacy and youth development program. Over the years, IntegrateNYC continuously pressured state and city officials through litigation and direct action to finally deliver a desegregated and equitable public school system, where all students had the same access to a sound basic educaiton.
