Even If

by Jace Valentine

Life shouldn’t be taken for granted

Especially if you’re black

Walk a lil too fast, take a jog, wear a hoodie, go to the corner store, it could be your last moment

Your strength strikes fear in the white man's hearts

Your instantly deemed a threat

Even if it's the same crime,

Different Complection-

Different Sentence-

Different Outcome-

Aggressive Black Male 6’2 180 pounds 23, and a mugshot if he's lucky and wasn't shot on site, soon reporters  flood with terms of  troubled student, aggression, and gang affiliation

But if he’s a white man you hear

Male, 23,  and his graduation photo flooded with he was a good kid we don’t know what happened.

Black skin deemed a threat

Even if white man got a gun locked and loaded,

Pointed at an officer

And you're holding your phone

It could be your last moment.

Even if your going for a jog,

Even if your in your own house,

Even if you just went to the corner store for your little sister,

Even if you cooperate.

It could be your last breath.
