NYC’s racially segregated public schools violate state law: suit

NY DAILY NEWS – Minority students are often denied an opportunity to gain access to more selective programs, from elementary to high school, the lawsuit contends.

“The caste system that continues to exist—indeed, to expand—in city schools enshrines racial hierarchy,” the complaint alleges.

“This system, which reifies and enhances race-based stratification, does not impart the “skills, knowledge, understanding and attitudes necessary” for meaningful “participat[ion] in democratic self-government,” the suit continues.
